The Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club (DCYC) and the Dallas Corinthian Educational Fund (DCEF) offers an Adult Basic Sailing Course, for DCYC members and non-members. Two thirds of the instruction is on the water. This is not a beginner adult sailing class, but even a beginner can learn the skills necessary to safely handle a keelboat up to 25’ in length by taking this class. This is also a good refresher and fundamentals class for the “experienced” sailor.
DCYC is offers two options and one hands on training; a one-day immersion class and a more detailed two weekend class. The class times may vary depending on weather conditions or holidays. The third option is the free J24 racing clinics. Learn to sail on J24s and commit to joining the weekly races as you fine tune your skills.
The one day class includes a theory class and up to 6 hours of sailing . This shortened Keelboat 101 classes has an open book written exam at the end of the class.
The two weekend class includes two Zoom classroom sessions and up to 12 hours of sailing . This Keelboat 101 class culminates with a final written exam and a demonstration of the skills mastered. The demonstration sail is with the instructor acting as unskilled crew
Upon completion a diploma will be issued, and the student should feel confident in taking a small keelboat sailing in fair wind condition.
